Happy Fall Friends!
I’m so happy for fall! It’s my favorite season! And yes, I am indeed a pumpkin spice fan, year round fan actually. Fall season is a time for reflection, going within, reconnecting with self, and perhaps enjoying the slowing down of the season.
What are your plans for fall ? Leaf piles? Jumping in leaf piles? Bonfires? Warm cider and hoodies? I love all things fall. The warm colors, warm spices, warm foods… yes I am the person who waits all year for fall! Lets embrace it shall we?
Lots of new things happening over in my world… new painting workshop coming November 9, War Eagle Craft fair Oct 17-21 (yep I’ll be there), and working on having a live online painting workshop in December! Not to mention I am working on a new series! All info can be found in the event section on my website.
Painting tidbit:
Did you know that lightly sanding your canvas with a fine tooth sandpaper can smooth the canvas out and help get rid of those bumps you feel on your canvas? Test it out. Take a small piece of fine sandpaper and sand lightly a section of your canvas. Run your fingers over it and then run your fingers over the non sanded section… you feel the difference? Now don’t overdo it! This is also a great trick to use if you have had to gesso over a painting. Just sand it down lightly and that gessoed layer with smooth out nicely.
Our last workshop “ Tuscan Getaway” was so much fun! I absolutely love how all of the student’s paintings turned out! They did such a brilliant job!
Hope to see you all soon !
A Mother's Day to celebrate the women in your life...and YOU!
As we approach May, I am often left with mixed feelings of joy and sadness. May is a wonderful month to celebrate those amazing women in our lives. Whether it be yourself, your mom, grandma, daughter, aunt, sister, cousin, best friend or mentor. It is the time of blooming tulips, friendly pollinators and warm sunshine. May is beautiful. However, for some of us, those amazing women in our lives have left us and we have a bit of an empty space on this special day. I myself speak from experience, I lost my mother a few years ago and boy was she something … a wonderful human and my best friend. Just last year I lost my granny… she was absolutely a breathtaking human being. She and my mother were both classy, graceful women who left a mark on my heart that I forever shall cherish. Although, they are not here with me in person, I carry them in my heart and continue to celebrate all of who they were, what they taught me about life, love, motherhood, who I want to be… and most importantly who I STRIVE to be.
As we draw closer to this wonderful day to honor the women in our lives, I invite you also to look in the mirror and reflect on the wonderful woman you are, the phenomenal woman that you are , and to honor yourself as well by celebrating YOU. Motherhood comes in all different forms and each of you have amazing gifts to offer.
Please join me for a special Mother’s Day Painting event celebrating the women we have come to love and know.

Trust your intuition Painting Workshop!
A new exciting workshop coming up on March 23, 2024 from 11-3pm! Come paint with me!
Join me for this women (21 and older) only intuitive painting workshop where you will learn to “trust your gut” when it comes to creating. So many of us never start a painting because we get intimidated by what the outcome may be. In this workshop you will learn to create a painting by using your intuition. That little voice inside of you that gets excited about a specific color… PAINT IT….. that little voice inside of you that gets excited about a shape or subject… DRAW IT….that little voice inside of you that wants to add a bright color…DO IT! All of those little inklings, instincts and insights calling to you… that’s your intuition guiding you. I’m going to help you clear a path back to it and silent your mind so that you can hear it when it speaks. Inspiration is an energy and that energy comes to us to wake up that inner child to explore and play..let’s create some magic together!
Each person will create their own individual painting but when we put them altogether, it creates one magical piece. This is the beauty of creating and inspiring each other! We will also have a drawing for a gift from me to you!
When: March 23,2023
Where: Rogers Experimental House 121 W. Walnut, Rogers, AR
Time: 11 am- 3 pm
FOR MORE INFORMATION CLICK HERE
I hope you will join me as we work together to open up our creativity to experience what it is to PLAY with art!
See you soon!
Be a Bear…
Well it’s January, gloomy and cold and that time of year where I just want to hibernate.
It’s not been easy, I have been fighting against the season instead of letting my body flow with it.
Winter is meant for us to slow down, reflect inwardly and perhaps find more time to rest and breathe. It’s hard to do isn’t it? In a world where we are told we must always be busy, productive and constant social media drowning us… it’s hard to make space for that part of self reflection. It requires so little to do yet so hard for us to get there.
Lately I have struggled with a creative block, one that comes every winter like clockwork. I call it a creative block because I can’t find the inspiration I need to create, yet still I try and force it. This only leads to frustration and outside voices saying I am not being productive, I need to create, I need to work…this is met only with more resistance. Finally I have to back up and take a breath. Let winter do its job and get in sync with the season. The bear doesn’t force itself to wake, it doesn’t come out before spring and force foraging in a winter covered woodland, it doesn’t make itself be a “spring bear” during the season of rest and recovery. No, the bear flows with the season, it listens and finds its groove, and because of that, the bear lives in sync with the splendor of nature.
Well…. what a lesson that is. Perhaps winter is here for everything to slow down, for us to ponder and wonder, to listen within so that when the time comes we too will be in sync with the seasons and like the bear waking upon spring, we too will wake with new blooms , sunshine and a heart full of excitement for the next journey on our creative path.
The time you spend away from painting is just as important as the time you spend painting. Words of wisdom from my beloved mentor, her memory and guidance still ground me when I find myself … “fighting against the seasons”.
Be a bear… slow down, eat good food, rest well and let spring come to you with a song and a dance. Inspiration will come knocking and you will awake with a new sense of self.
Until next time, rest well my friends and stay warm,
Karrie

Inner child and your creative journey
Let this coming year be your year to find your creative path!
Don’t quiet your inner child, embrace him/her and let their magical innocence guide you in this wonderful journey. Life is too short to think about the “what ifs”. And when I refer to the what ifs , I’m talking about that little voice in your head that says “what if I am not good enough?” , “what if I can’t create?”, “what if my painting turns out terrible?”
We forget something….when we were kids, we sat down with crayons and just played, we used finger paints and markers and we just made messes! But they were HAPPY messes weren’t they? Do you think our inner child questioned how good it was or let fear stop them from doodling? Nope. My friends… I hold true to this statement… we were all born as creative beings, we just let the outside world tell us that what we did wasn’t good enough, or realistic. It’s ok. I was there once too. However I have learned to silence my inner critic and let my inner child roar! She deserves a voice! She deserves to play and sing and dance and create and just be HAPPY. Does this mean I am always jolly? No. Like Santa… that’s fiction.
It means that when I paint or create , I dive into my own world where it’s just me and my 6 year old curiosity. Where everything outside of me quiets and I find magic with just “playing”. The fear of the outcome falls wayside and the meditative state of actually creating begins.
Please dear friends, don’t let fear stop you from trying something new , or exploring your creative side. Be brave, and bold in your journey.
If you need some guidance you know I am here with workshops and classes ready to let your inner voice shine.
Make 2024 your creative year!
Happy holidays to you my dear friends! And thank you for always being the best supporters as I continue creating on this canvas we call life.
Love, Karrie
It's the most wonderful time of the year!
Tis the Season my friends!
As I reflect on this past year I am filled with so much warmth and gratitude. I’m not sure what it is about getting older but you really begin to focus more on living your most authentic version of yourself and by doing that you open up an entire new perspective on life. I’m not far from 50 and I realized that there is so much more to who I am as a woman, as a human really, than what I have allowed myself to live. For someone like myself, I have always felt compelled to live in my truth, funny thing is though… your truth changes… because you continue to grow and learn.
What I have learned this year is…. It’s ok to embrace aging , my grays, my lines, my changing body. I have learned that life doesn’t have to be so hard. That ego has zero place in my life and that ego is what keeps me from FEELING authentic. I have learned that slowing down is ok. That gentle exercise is better than killing myself trying to prove I am strong or fit. That it becomes more about how I feel rather than how I look…. And whoa is there some freedom in that folks! I have learned that my kids growing up and spreading their wings is bittersweet and still so beautiful. I have learned that it’s ok to keep trying things, that learning is a wonderful experience and sometimes it’s about learning what you like and don’t like, who you are and who you want to be, and whether you want to eat the whole pan of brownies or just go for a slice.
It’s been a phenomenal year of growth with these amazing life experiences!
I’ve learned that being humble and being grateful are the two most beautiful ways to live.
I have learned that losing my mom was the hardest thing I have ever gone through… and how much she taught me is instilled in me so deeply that without even knowing it I have taught my children the same.
Dogs are the best.
Chocolate is my air
Gaining weight is ok
Motherhood is beautiful
Sisterhood is important
Teaching again feeds my spirit
Making art and messing up on my canvas… is ALWAYS OK… because well we have gesso right?
Being still and breathing is an amazing lesson I learned. I don’t constantly have to be doing “something”.
Most importantly… I have learned to love and accept myself right where I am. To give myself grace and to do my best.. whatever that looks like.
What have you learned about yourself in 2023?
